Proverbs 28:17 NIV

This is not a political post. I have never been a strong proponent of the death penalty for lots of reasons. However, Solomon makes it clear in this verse that guilt is certain. Wherever you stand on the issue, Solomon firmly believes that the person who is guilty carries an incredible weight from that guilt that, without the divine intervention we find in Jesus and His powerful forgiveness, only finds rest in death. We also know that without the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf, none of us will find peace after our last breath. According to Jesus, if we call somebody a fool, we are guilty and worthy of eternal punishment. In this passage, Solomon reminds us that those who are guilty of violent crimes must face the consequences. We know that those of us who are guilty of any sin will surely face consequences as well. Thankfully, there are no degrees of sin at the cross. Whether we consider a sin minor or major, all cost Jesus His life on our behalf. Thankfully, I’ve never had to sit in judgment on a murderer. As a matter of fact, I’ve only been called for jury duty once, and I was dismissed before the trial. But I have found myself standing guilty before my King and answering to Him. Beautifully, His Son stepped in front of me and took my penalty so I wouldn’t have to. Today, own your guilt and accept God’s payment on your behalf. #BeTheEdge
