In this verse Solomon uses a phrase better translated, “perverse in two ways.” That is they try to go in two ways or different directions. They want to go their own way without completely deserting God. One theologian referred to it as akin to serving God and mammon which we know is not a popular strategy with God. It is easier for the poor to focus on God and eternal rewards than the person of great means on earth. Recently, as I assumed complete responsibility for my monthly bills, I realized I was spending hundreds of dollars a month on yard and lawn care. It blew my mind how much mowing, trimming, blowing off, fertilizing, etc. was costing me. I started a plan to meet with each person or company that handled the tasks. After over 10 years of these folks doing these things weekly and monthly I am not overly impressed with the quality of my lawn. I have begun to formulate a new, cost effective plan. One day I realized that I was not only wasting a lot of money on some of these efforts I was wasting time I did not have dealing with it. However with this particular issue I was now becoming obsessed with dealing with it. In my early days of home ownership when I pushed my own mower, spread my own fertilizer and trimmed my own hedges it was cheaper and done in a pretty speedy and efficient manner. I’m going to get a lawn mower and get over it. I will put my time and resources into the things that mattered and have eternal value including my family and friends and their needs. Today reevaluate what controls your time, mind and resources and be sure they reflect a Kingdom heart. #BeTheEdge
