“According to the National Institutes of Health, obesity and overweight together are the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, close behind tobacco use. An estimated 300,000 deaths per year are due to the obesity epidemic.” Not exactly what I wanted to read here at the end of the holidays and 2 days before New Year’s Day. A doctor told my friend he needed to lose some weight every time he saw him. Actually, he got specific – curb his eating and exercise, or risk diabetes, heart disease, or worse. Then he developed both. Ultimately, I was at his funeral way too soon. He ignored the doctor’s counsel and it cost him his life. God’s counsel is the same. Ignore it long enough and there will ultimately be no coming back from the place of loss or brokenness you find yourself in. Of course, there is always hope of redemption and reconciliation. However, at some point the arrogant, prideful, or just willful disobedience of God’s reproof through others (parents, ministers, friends, the Holy Spirit, or any other source He uses) ignored will suddenly end in shattered, irreparable brokenness. Today, start a diet and exercise plan if you need to, but more importantly, listen to God’s voice for change, and obey. It is critical to your future. #BeTheEdge
