There’s a person I’m forced to deal with every so often who struggles with the truth. That’s probably not uncommon for all of us. This person will tell me something in the moment to cover what they’ve done or didn’t do, only months later to have a totally different story because they didn’t remember what they told me before. It happens regularly, and sometimes there are four or five different versions over time about the same thing. Sadly, I’ve gotten to where whatever they’re telling me, I just don’t believe it. Thankfully, none of it affects my life, my walk with God, my faith in God, or my compassion for them. It actually may increase my compassion at times. When Solomon says, “Evildoers are snared by their own sin,” that’s a sobering truth. There are times when the sinner’s participation in sin brings bad consequences into their story. Other times, the consequences are things like a loss of trust from others. They can result in a distancing from people they’d rather not be distant from. At the worst, they can result in broken marriages. And maybe even worse, they can end in eternal separation from their Creator. There’s no sin too great for God to forgive, but a person with a pattern of sin that they seem to want to justify rather than confess and repent from does not bode well for their eternity. The righteous shout for joy, I believe, in large part because they don’t live under the weight of guilt or the fear of discovery. Today, be honest. #BeTheEdge
