Proverbs 30:8 NIV

I recently read an opinion on lying in America today: “While a majority of Americans report telling few to no lies, a small percentage of prolific liars account for a large portion of total lies. Some experts also describe an ‘epidemic of lying’ in U.S. politics, citing frequent false and misleading statements by public figures, which contributes to a broader erosion of trust and societal confusion.” I don’t think most people would disagree with this observation, though I found it intriguing that a majority reported telling few to no lies. That might be a lie. Research by Golden Steps contradicts this a bit, showing: “People lie for various reasons, such as to avoid punishment, to gain advantage, or to protect someone’s feelings. According to a study by the University of Massachusetts, 60% of people can’t go 10 minutes without lying. Every week, Americans tell 11 lies.” The bottom line is that lying and falsehoods are fairly common in our culture for many reasons. Scripture calls Satan the father of lies. Conversely God has never told a lie. As His children, we do well to make the same request as our author today. We serve an honest God. Jesus is known as “The Truth.” Today, reflect His truth. #BeTheEdge
