As a minister for the last 50 years (I started at 2 years old 😊), I have lived with the responsibility to keep people’s confidential conversations confidential. In some cases, even after death. Before I share a story in a teaching setting, I always ask permission. Even when permission is given, I change details that will hide the person’s identity. The very idea of belonging to and being in a relationship with God, where He invites you into His confidence, is almost too much to comprehend. The secrets of the universe are all His. In this verse, the Hebrew word for confidence, sod, means “intimate friendship, secret counsel, or a close, trusting relationship with God.” How amazingly cool is that? Although I have had many things shared with me over the years, there was none more like sod than what I shared with my wife, Jennifer. We shared everything. Whenever someone casually asked me not to repeat something, especially a woman, I would stop them and say, “I keep no secrets from my wife.” That does not mean I ever violated counseling confidentiality. To this day, I have things Jen said or did that will never be repeated. Until her passing, she did the same. God wants that level of intimacy with you. Here’s the catch: When He reveals something to us, more often than not, He wants us to share it with others. Dive into His Word, walk with His Spirit, and be drawn into His confidence.
