A lot of us wear reminders. Special earrings, a favorite t shirt from a certain event. Engagement rings are flashed to announce “I’m committed to someone”. Wedding rings tell others we are married and they are also a constant reminder of the deep commitment we made for life to another. Doesn’t mean it is always kept but that is the idea. One of the resources The Edge ministry gives away is a wrist band with the verse from Proverbs 27:17 and the words “As Iron Sharpens Iron”. The intent is that it be worn as a reminder that God intends for us to all help one another be better people. When I’m not living that way I will turn it inside out to remind me that I need to do better then I get to put it back right. In this verse Solomon is basically encouraging the same idea. In his day faithful Jews wore what was called phylacteries or tephillin on their hand and forehead that contained 4 verses from the scriptures. The point is that God, in this verse, implores us to get His truth where we will never lose it, where we will always be reminded by it and can readily access it. For us it need not be worn externally although the Proverbs 27:17 wristband can be a great resource in creating conversations about our faith. God’s word can be placed deep in our soul always available to be recalled in an instant and available for the Holy Spirit to access in our mind. Today continue to make God’s word a regular part of your day and commit it to heart. #BeTheEdge
