I spent time yesterday reviewing goals and setting plans with my accountability partner to be sure we are walking the path God has laid out for us. It involved clearing out some activities that did not enhance our walk with the Lord. It was also a time to evaluate what we see as God’s clearest call on our lives. It came with the recognition that everything good is not always God’s call for us. As has often been said, the good can be the enemy of the great. A lazy or overly comfortable lifestyle can allow mediocrity to creep into our story. However, God is not against proper rest. This time was also a reminder that recreation, relaxation, and rest are priorities of God for His people. I love the clarity of Jesus speaking about this with His followers in Matthew: “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear], and My burden is light.” — Jesus. Getting our calling aligned with who we are and who God is can be a powerful exercise. It is vital for the believer. None but the most arrogant believe it can be done alone. When we find our clear calling and align our lives with it, the result is that we can work diligently and yet experience great peace and a restfulness that permeates our soul. Today, take a fresh look at your call. #BeTheEdge
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, “We will not walk in it.”’” Jeremiah 6:16
