Proverbs 6:19 NASB

It is very common and easy to spread false information. We all have a tendency to hear something a little juicy and want to repeat it. This verse is not necessarily referring to that. As wrong as spreading false information is, this verse is talking about intentional behavior. It is talking about someone who would spread false information and lies with the intent to hurt someone else. This is a vengeful act. If you have ever been the victim of that behavior, as most of us have at some point in our life, it can be devastating. Satan flourishes in the darkness of lies. The challenge for those of us who are Christ followers is to avoid being this person at all times. When we are hurt, wounded, or simply feel the need to shape a narrative, we can slip into this behavior before we know it. It is a gradual decline from a simple vague comment to an outright deception. There is a reason Jesus described Himself as the Truth. There is also a reason that Scripture tells us there was nothing but truth in Him. I don’t think it’s ever been more obvious than it is today that the world desperately needs truth-tellers. Today, guard your mouth and let nothing but truth escape your lips.
