At the moment it was happening Good Friday did not seem that good. Ever since Easter Sunday hind sight shows that it was not only good it was great. Those at the foot of the cross were devastated. Those staring into an empty tomb three days later were confused and maybe a bit hopeful. Those interrupted by the resurrected savior were overjoyed. How about you? Today represents the quiet Saturday Christians know as Holy Saturday. On the cross Jesus declared “It is finished”. The possessive grip of sin on the souls of mankind was defeated. We were set free to receive the gift of freedom from the chains of sin on our life. We celebrate the empty tomb on Sunday but on Holy Saturday, without even realizing it, His followers had the price for their sin paid and their access to their creator was being restored. Many people are stuck on Holy Saturday. They are aware of the sacrifice paid on the cross on Good Friday but they have not received that gift that received God’s stamp of approval on Easter Sunday. Finally, there has to be a death to be a resurrection. That doesn’t sound fun but it is a powerful truth. I use to have a poster in my office that said “Jesus died on the cross believing that His Father would raise Him from the dead. And He did.” I love the simplicity. Holy Saturday is when we contemplate if we will walk forward with the awareness of the cross with that same level of trust. Today contemplate the sacrifice paid and the empty tomb that followed and live in their truth. #BeTheEdge
