Proverbs 7:10 NIV

Many years ago, I was audited. At the conclusion of the audit, about $100 of my write-offs were denied. When my accountant asked why I was audited, he was told that, given how little I earned and the volume of business write-offs I claimed that year, they just knew I was up to something. After the audit, they determined I was honest—just the world’s worst businessman. Everyone got a good laugh when God later led me to lead a ministry to business leaders. Solomon actually touches on one of the reasons for that rough financial year in my journey: I had dealings with a couple of business people who had “crafty intent.” Prostitutes are like neon signs for evil and crafty intent. Business people—especially those waving their “I love Jesus” banner—can be much harder to discern. In this verse, we see that the prostitute doesn’t wait for her mark to approach her; she goes to him. The same happened to me with these men. I’ve learned since then. There is no substitute for truly knowing someone—seeing their relationship with Jesus lived out in their professional and social life—before trusting in their walk. Today, walk in integrity, and beware of those with crafty intent. #BeTheEdge
