Here is the good news. Very few of us are in danger of following a prostitute or seductress to her place of death and destruction. I would be very remiss to assume none of us are in danger of that but in reality most of us read this chapter and think, “poor guy” and move on. Here is the more challenging news. Many of us are susceptible to the deceptive lure of other seductions. The big 3, sex, drugs and rock and roll are now understood better as power, money, recognition and those places where Satan reaches into our tender spots and draws us away from God’s will. Many theologians, without dismissing the powerful, destructive influence of illicit sex believe this passage is a caution against anything, including false teaching, that can draw us into the place of spiritual and possibly even physical death. How do we avoid this condition? I love how the old evangelist put it, “We should be so busy doing the do’s that we don’t have time to do the don’ts.” Live a life focused on the things of God and flee temptation. Today avoid the roads leading to destruction and plant your feet firmly on the road of Life. #BeTheEdge
