Proverbs 8:31 NIV

I was asked the other day if I consider myself an environmentalist. I had to ponder that for a moment. These days that can be an incredibly loaded question and meant to set up either a lecture or a fight. Thankfully the person asking was truly just curious on how I felt about the care of the planet. I was able to share that I believe the planet is one of God‘s great gifts to mankind and that we certainly have a responsibility not to abuse it and to take care of it. I hate seeing litter on the road. I’m saddened by the intentional destruction or ignorance of our planets beauty. I love fresh clean water, a beautiful clear night sky and all the other amazing things in God’s creation. The place where I probably get out of alignment with some who call themselves environmentalists is that I don’t believe God ever intended for us to put the environment or anything else ahead of the needs of His greatest creation, people. In this chapter Solomon reminds us of how excellent God‘s creation truly is. And then in this verse he reminds us that God’s true delight is found in mankind. There’s no real reason that loving others needs to ever get crossways with caring for the planet. However, if the two ever did require putting one interest above the other, the human life and soul should never lose. Today enjoy and protect God‘s creation but remember the Word of God and the souls of men are the only things that will last forever. #BeTheEdge
