Proverbs 8:34 NIV

I’m almost always in a hurry. If I feel that God is leading me or the ministry to move in a direction and do something, I’m ready to go. Often, I’m ready to go without being prepared to go. That’s a dangerous way to operate. Want proof? Look at a few of my past efforts. Most of the time, they were accomplished, but they left a few casualties along the way. Patience and better planning could have accomplished the same things—maybe more and better—with less damage along the way. Thankfully, over the years, through experience and with great counsel, I’ve gotten better at wise waiting. You see, there are a variety of ways to wait. One is strictly lazy, hoping someone else will do it or that the need will go away. That’s not good waiting. Another is waiting for a clear “go!” from the Lord. That is what we see Solomon referring to in this passage. Scripture makes it clear that waiting on God is not only wise and prudent, but it is also imperative. Numerous places in the Bible talk about God’s perfect timing. Even the birth of the Savior is referenced as being “at the right time.” Waiting and preparing for God’s “go” is a gift. Thankfully, it is not entirely up to us to decide the timing. Recently, the stock markets have been particularly volatile. I’ve heard a few people suggest they will invest right before the markets rebound. Wouldn’t that be nice? The problem is that no one really knows when the right time to do that is. God knows the exact right time for everything. He determines the right time for everything. Waiting and watching God is our privilege. Today, wait and watch your Heavenly Father. #BeTheEdge
