If only we could see into the future we would be so much smarter today. I’m not talking about knowing tomorrow’s lottery numbers today. But, I am talking about seeing the consequences of our bad choices or those things that we think are harmless choices. Just a little more, just a few more minutes, he’s ok to hang out with tonight, and on and on go the first-step thoughts that lead to death, destruction, brokenness, and heartache. That first step can seem so innocent or, at the very least, like not a big deal. We’ve all heard the phrase, “It’s a slippery slope.” As with all those pithy phrases they had to start somewhere with at least a grain of truth. There was always that first drink, taste, touch, glance or any other action that begins our slide into sin. When asked by a teen about whether they should go somewhere or do something because of the risk, I always counseled, “When in doubt, don’t.” Today, look at your next step and if you are unsure if it is a good idea, just don’t.
