Proverbs 9:5 NKJV

Some theologians draw a correlation between this verse and the New Testament story of Jesus breaking the bread and sharing the wine with His disciples (the Last Supper). Though most see that as a stretch, we know that at least Jesus would be familiar with not only this verse but the regular practice of sharing bread and wine throughout Jewish history. It is truly a powerful image of the communion experience for those of us who are followers of Christ. In the way wisdom invites the reader of Proverbs to dine with her so too Jesus invites all of us as His children to join with Him. He tells the disciples and us throughout Scripture that, although we are to continue this practice in remembrance of His sacrifice for us, He will not partake until we are all together with Him in heaven. As Wisdom invites us to her table, the source of all wisdom invites us into His eternal family. Likewise, we should invite others to ‘break bread’ and learn of the God we love. The shared meal seems to be a powerful bonding, soul sharing experience. Today, enjoy the intimate fellowship offered by wisdom; even more, the eternal belonging offered by our Creator, and pass it on. #BeTheEdge
