“He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.”
There are seasons and cycles in life. That is intentional. God has created a world that rotates through four seasons. Depending on where you live, they might manifest a bit differently. While living in Miami, I remember a joke about winter last year—it was on a Tuesday afternoon in January. God’s creation goes through seasons, and life goes through cycles. It is all both vital to life and growth and deeply instructive. Our spiritual journey goes through seasons and cycles as well. Yesterday, on the weekly Be The Edge challenge call, a coach reminded us as leaders that there are times when our souls can feel empty and need rest and refreshment. When Jesus encountered the woman at the well out in the desert of Samaria, it’s believed He was seeking a moment of rest, relaxation, and recreation. Those are the three words used in the Amplified Bible to translate the original Greek when Jesus encourages us to take His yoke upon us. He is very aware that there is a time to rest—but allowing that rest to interfere with our time to plow, plant, and harvest is foolish and leads to our downfall. Solomon wrote a book that reminds us there is a time for everything. Because this proverb contrasts the one who gathers with the one who sleeps during harvest, we know the work to create the harvest has already been done. The difference is that one works while the other sleeps when both should be harvesting. Knowing how to live within the cycles and seasons comes from the Holy Spirit’s leading. Today, live rightly, and God will use you. #BeTheEdge
