Proverbs 11:1 NIV

“The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.”

Yesterday I saw a trending topic on social media. Most of the comments were biased by which team the person pulled for. The issue was the eligibility of a college athlete. I suspect that fully 20 to 25 percent of the readers know exactly what I’m referencing and have an opinion—perhaps a strong one—about the issue. I’m pretty ambivalent about it; however, one word I see in many of the posts is cheater. I’m not sure that label applies, but I do believe culturally we see a lot of cheating take place. As we move into tax season, the phrase tax cheat starts to pop up. The other day, one of my grandchildren and I were playing checkers. They decided they didn’t like a move they had made, and when I wasn’t looking, they redid it. When I looked back, they were giggling. After a moment of me giving them the granddaddy stink eye, they confessed their move. Cheating can be silly or serious. Solomon wants us to live with a clear understanding that cheating another—to defraud them, steal from them, or hurt them—is, to God, a detestable act. We never want to cause that reaction from our Savior. Today, live above reproach. #BeTheedge

“And that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before.” 1 Thessalonians 4:6 NIV
