“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”
Hope is a great gift that we receive as followers of God. His promises—the things He has made clear are in store for His followers—help us deal with the trials and challenges of everyday life. They also help us deal with the loss that inevitably becomes part of everyone’s story. The fulfillment of that hope is sometimes deferred for many years, even to the end of our lives. That is often the case when you lose a loved one. We grieve the loss. We desperately long at times to have them back, but in our spirit, we hang on with a steel grip to the hope that we will be with them again. And we will. One of the beautiful gifts of heaven is the fact that hope does not exist there—not because hope is not a beautiful gift from God for us now, but because there will be no reason for hope in heaven. Everything God promises, including reunion with those we love who belong to Him, is fulfilled when we get there—instantly. The fact that there is no hope in heaven is one of the greatest promises we have ahead. Today, cling to the hope God gives us, and find immense comfort in the truth that one day it will no longer be needed. #BeTheEdge
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 NIV
