Proverbs 14:12 NIV

“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.”

This verse begs the question: if a certain way appears to be the right, even wise, choice, how can we be allowed to suffer the penalty of death for choosing it? The answer is found, as I suspect most of you have already figured out, in not trusting ourselves to determine the right path. As followers, we learn early that our five senses can, and often will, deceive us. First, because of the sin that has broken us in areas of our lives—both the ones we are aware of and the ones we aren’t. Put simply, we just can’t be trusted. Secondly, Satan lives to deceive us. He will do it through others, as well-meaning as they may be. He certainly has allies who would deceive us at any opportunity. Consequently, we want to learn to live by hearing and following His voice. In a world crowded with many voices seeking anything but our best, we must practice hearing our Savior’s voice in the midst of them. Thankfully, God wants us to hear Him, and if we desire His clear guidance, He stands ready and promises to give it freely. When we don’t hear Him, it is a pretty good bet that His instruction is to wait. That becomes a time to learn to listen and ask what He wants us to learn. During times of uncertainty and pause, we have the luxury of resting in His presence. Today, listen and relax. #BeTheEdge
