Proverbs 15:3 NIV

“The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.”

A few years ago I spent a considerable amount of time with a former mobster — a made man. I hope he truly was former. There are days I wonder. Often, as he spoke to groups, he would say it was crazy to be a criminal these days. He talked about how technology can trace you everywhere. He mentioned cameras around businesses, homes, portable devices — all the different tech that surrounds us. I once had lunch with a former National Intelligence officer. Now that’s two ends of the spectrum. However, he had a very similar view. He said he now lives basically “off the grid” because, in his experience, our government as well as enemies could find and listen in on you anywhere. Those conversations were enough to make anyone look over their shoulder and watch the sky. The key to living in that kind of world seems to be living both a clean life and one without fear of the future. As a believer in an omnipresent God, I have always known I was being watched—or, more correctly, watched over. If danger comes, it must first come through Him, so I’ll be okay whatever the result. If I had the resources I might live a bit more off the grid just because I’m a bit of an introvert and enjoy the quiet of privacy. However, in the big picture I’m comforted by the knowledge that the Creator and Sustainer of the universe always has my back. That gives me peace and rest. Today, live with a constant awareness of your audience of One. #BeTheEdge
