“Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.”

With Father’s Day close it seems a great time for this verse to come up in the rotation. Horton tells us that this verse is a beautiful family picture of linked and mutually blessed generations. I like that. The aged, or as the ancient Jews called them “Old Men”, literally means grandfathers. As one of those I enjoy being a grandfather. As a parent to my grandkids parents I desire to make them all proud. However in todays society what makes our children proud of us can be confusing. I’ve often told parents that what their child needs is not another friend as much as a godly example and leader in their journey. That can be hard, especially with what todays culture seems to be demanding of them. The slipping of social mores puts more pressure on families now than at any time in the last century. Proper and improper behavior has blurred. More importantly biblical and unbiblical behavior seems to be more challenging to define for many families. It can be confusing to allow social behavior evolve while keeping biblical values firmly in place. When society declares a long held social practice or belief is changed we are forced to go to scripture and find out where God’s people should stand on it. That can grow us away from assumed but not truly biblical beliefs or it can put us squarely in line with it. Your kids and grandkids need generational Godly examples. Today be that. #BeTheEdge

“I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.” Jesus
