“Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.”
In this verse Solomon reprimands the fool in a way he has done many times throughout his writings. He has no patience for this particular brand of foolish person. They believe they already have the ultimate grasp of understanding and are not interested in anything else. They know there is more being offered, but in their arrogance they don’t believe they need it. They are just fine as they are. They also believe so much in their own wisdom that they think everyone else not only needs it, but also wants it. As Christ followers we know the only true source of understanding is God, and our best display of wisdom is in recognizing that we have none apart from Him. Earlier in Proverbs, Solomon told us that the beginning of wisdom is to get it. His intention was that we pursue God’s wisdom, going beyond natural wisdom. We recognize that our opinions are not that important, and we set our priority on Him. Today, seek His wisdom. #BeTheEdge
