Proverbs 23:32 NIV

“In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.”

I hate snakes. I’ve been told some are actually good to have around. I don’t care, I still would rather they not exist. Let’s all agree they were banished to crawl on their belly in the dust by God. Solomon is not putting forth a great picture of them here. Even worse is the sin he is describing. The result of lingering too long with alcohol will allow these consequences to sneak up on you and destroy your life in much the same way as a bite from the most poisonous of snakes. The attractive nature of a little alcohol is potentially overtaken by the thin line between enjoyment and over indulgence. This truth can occur with other activities as well but most sin is sin from the start. Adultery starts off wrong. Lying starts off as sin. Stealing is sin from the moment you decide to take something that’s not yours. Unless you have been directed by the Lord not to drink that particular sin is most often crossed into gently. Like many areas of danger in our lives the time to find out how close to the edge of the cliff is to close is seldom one step before you fall off. It is wise to stay well back from the point of too much alcohol to avoid the sneaky nature of the bite. Today walk far from the line of disobedience in all areas. #BeTheEdge

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬
