“Take away the dross from the silver, and there comes out a vessel for the smith;” Proverbs 25:4 NASB
I’m watching a spy series on Netflix. That’s not really significant in itself, but with 10 seasons, I have found that when I plop down to have my mind zone out on what we previously called the “idiot tube,” I’m no longer watching the soul-sucking repetition of CNN, Fox, or any of the other ‘news’ options. The intrigue, bombs, deception, and revolving characters of the British spy world have me fascinated, engaged, and completely distracted from the rantings and ramblings about our current political and world behavior. Look, I have a political science degree. I’m pretty interested in all-things political. But at this point, there doesn’t seem to be much of anything praiseworthy or uplifting being spoken about in that arena. I’m giving my soul a break. I’m watching plenty of Hallmark movies with my spy stories. The point is Solomon is encouraging us to remove the impurities from our lives. He goes on in this passage to encourage the removal of those who are a bad influence on our leaders as well as ourselves. Time to remove the voices that bring impurities to your mind. Today, think thoughts of God. And a little harmless spy intrigue can be fun, too. #BeTheEdge
