Proverbs 7:14 NIV

“Today I fulfilled my vows, and I have food from my fellowship offering at home.”

I am always amazed by how brazenly the prostitute in this passage speaks, so comfortably using religious language to mask her true intent. In reality, she is using it to justify her sin. I have read this verse monthly for decades as part of my daily reading from Proverbs. Over time, I am less and less struck by the brazen use of religion to justify sin. I watch as churches, both locally and nationally, seem very comfortable embracing what God calls sin and speak as though they know better than others, all while masking their behavior through a misuse of Scripture. It is too easy to call oneself a Christian these days. I’m not dismissing the attacks Christians face for standing on Scripture, but I see almost daily people engaged in sin loudly proclaiming their sin is acceptable because their “Christian faith” and their interpretation of what Jesus said trump what He actually said. When Jesus was led into the desert, Satan tempted Him using Scripture. In reality, he was misusing Scripture. Not surprisingly, Jesus was fully aware of Satan’s biblical deception and called it out. Today, we must know God’s Word and live by it. We will be attacked for doing so and told that we don’t understand what Jesus meant. We were warned by Jesus that that would happen. Our call is to stand firm on His truth. Today, stand firm. #BeTheEdge
