Proverbs 9:12 NIV

“If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.”

There is nothing fun about a mocker. They are not playful. They are not “the life of the party.” And they are not quick-witted. They are mean. The dictionary definition of mock is “to tease or laugh at in a scornful or contemptuous manner.” Many years ago, I chose to keep those people out of my journey. They are life-stealing, soul-sucking individuals. I may sound a bit harsh, but I’m pretty done with bullies. I watch my grandkids get bullied at times, and it breaks my heart. Mockers are bullies. It’s no wonder mockers often end up not being invited, included, or wanted at certain gatherings. Oscar Wilde, a connoisseur of wit, wrote, “Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit but the highest form of intelligence.” That might be true—since mocking takes no intelligence at all. I say avoid them both. With that being said, we can see why Solomon—who always starts and ends with wisdom—tells us that the wise person, the one who has learned to control their words, to encourage, build up, and bless, will be rewarded in the end. Actually, even sooner—because they will find friendship and joy in their relationships. “Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime.” —Dale Carnegie Today, speak wisely. #BeTheEdge
