Proverbs 4:5 NIV

“Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.”

Forgetting and turning away are two very different things. Neither brings about God’s desire for our life. You would like to think that once a person has wisdom and understanding, they would be sure not to forget or leave them behind. However, this caution is invaluable and very pertinent for us today. With all the noise in the world, if we are not consciously hanging on to God’s truth, we can forget it. The intentional walking away from it is very frightening. It implies a willful choice to turn away from God and His truth. In C.S. Lewis’ classic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, we find the children losing the memory of their life before Narnia. At the point where they return, it all comes back to them. In a similar way, the more we align our walk with this world, the more God’s kingdom work in our life fades. It is one reason that unless a childhood decision for Christ is reaffirmed as a teenager, it is too often walked away from. Paul also reminds us not to drift away from God and His truth. Today, stay close to God. #BeTheEdge

“We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” Hebrews 2:1 NIV
