“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.”
on the third of each month, as I go through Proverbs, I find it very difficult to move past this verse in search of another to share. I love this passage and its simple yet profound message. The words love and faithfulness in this passage are also translated as mercy and truth. What an amazing way to live our lives. Can you imagine—not necessarily even a country or community living by those words (although that would be phenomenal)—but simply a family that chose to live this way? I live in one of those families, and I believe many of you do as well. God’s plan is for us to export these qualities beyond our family and into the world around us through every life we touch. My internet has been down for over two weeks. I’ve called the provider every day and received the same message: There is an outage. I’m the only house affected, but they’re “working on it.” I have been severely tested in operating with love, mercy, and faithfulness. I am very ready to give them a dose of truth! The reality is that the individuals I speak with—different people each day—will likely never know me as more than a number or a name on an account. The longer this continues, the more I find myself wanting to unload some truth, and not always kindly. At times I’ve become firmer than I’m comfortable with, and I’ve needed to apologize. You see, it can be easy to be loving and kind to those who love us back. Beyond that, obedience to this verse can be tested—and usually will be—every day of our lives. Today, reflect the kindness and faithfulness of your Savior. #BeTheEdge
