Proverbs 1:21 NASB

As we begin a new year I am in the midst of launching a new ministry. One of the powerful truths that has become clearer to me over time is that God calls all of us to be “gatekeepers.” That term is found throughout ancient history in reference to those who literally sat at the gate to the city or buildings and determined who entered and who didn’t. The criteria to allow entry varied but essentially reflected a desire for safety for the place they entered. The phrase had political, philosophical, and religious meanings as well. Not allowing certain beliefs, teaching, and policy to influence others could be the role of the gatekeeper. God has placed gatekeepers in various roles; parent, boss, leader, friend and numerous others can be considered as gatekeepers. Parents decide what small children watch on TV, as well as where they go and who they are with. Business leaders give access to their employees to training, speakers, resources and numerous other things that can help them be better employees and better people. Today, consider your role as gatekeeper and look for opportunities to bring the presence of God to those you are responsible for. #BeTheEdge
