Every few years I discipline myself to follow a ‘read through the Bible in a year’ plan; this year I am using a chronological plan. I find much of the Old Testament tedious. I have found myself during the first 8 1/2 months of this year longing for some reading time in the New Testament, so I sneak some in every couple of days. That is not to say that there isn’t some great stuff in the Old Testament, as well. For instance, I just finished two days in the book of Esther. That story is as good as Hollywood gets, and it’s a true story! However, all the genealogies, numbers of silverware, and towns that I can never pronounce get cumbersome, to say the least. It is imperative that we find ways to read God’s Word attentively, paying careful attention to let His Spirit quicken truth to us. His Word was not written to give information, it was written for transformation. If you are finding it stale, find a way to shake it up. Today, look for resources that will help you look intently into God’s Word and watch it transform your heart and mind.
