Proverbs 17:1 NIV

“There is a Swedish idiomatic expression, maskrosbarn (dandelion child), which refers to the capacity of some children to survive and even thrive in whatever circumstances they encounter, in much the same way that dandelions seem to thrive irrespective of soil, sun, drought, or rain. Someone who has a tough childhood and still turns out alright, like a dandelion breaking through asphalt. Obviously, this actually translates quite well, but doesn’t seem to be commonly used in English….I think it’s quite a striking image.” (NYT 2/3/11) In the US we call them “orchard children.” The orchard person is probably the opposite of those who are referred to as “snowflakes,” today. Without getting political I believe we can all agree a lot has happened in the last 9 months but there is a very real light in the future. Vaccines are being given, and regardless of the exact rollout, it is widely agreed that by next summer we will be well on our way toward a 70% herd immunity. The political situation will be settled to some extent. Racial issues will be in process of being addressed, whatever that truly looks like. And most importantly, God will still be securely on His throne. We have been battered, no doubt. But like the dandelion kids, God has carried us through and will show us how to thrive by His definition. Perhaps as you gather with family and friends, whatever that looks like this year, you can do it with peace, hope, joy, and true celebration. We all need that. Today, seek peace and pursue it, especially with those in your immediate tribe. #BeTheEdge

“…seek peace and pursue it.” Psalms 34:14b NIV
