Proverbs 18:2 NASB

A friend and I had lunch the other day with a couple who said they needed to talk. Boy, was that true. They started by telling us their marriage was in trouble and asked if we could help. Over the course of an hour and a half they told us what was going on. They told us about their entire 18 years together – what was wrong with him, what was wrong with her – basically, what the other needed to do to fix their relationship. After an hour and a half, the couple had to leave. My friend and I sat there for a moment after they left; then he asked me if I was thinking what he was thinking. I suspected I was. He said what their marriage needed is for them to shut up and listen to each other instead of talking at each other. We were hardly allowed to contribute two words to the conversation as we sat there listening to their back-and-forth. There was no room for us to get a word in. Today, listen lots, talk little, and watch your world improve.
