I have presided over many weddings as an ordained minister. Thankfully I’m batting somewhere in the 800’s. For the non baseball fan reading this that number represents that most have stayed together. With divorce so high, including in Christian marriages, it seems Solomon hit this nail right on the head. Certainly at every wedding I’ve officiated and the many more I’ve attended everyone declares their unfailing love for each other. I’m bewildered by those who choose to ignore that declaration later in their journey. I realize that Jesus gave a few ‘outs’ for those seeking divorce, but they were very few and He was no fan of people using them. In my experience they are not usually why people walk away from their marriages either. This question may seem rhetorical however Solomon is talking in broad terms about those who declare the love, goodness and other positive qualities in their life. If someone finds it necessary.to make these pronouncements about themselves it is likely they are not truly present in their story. The loving, kind and loyal person is best known by their deeds. Those with unfailing love can be seen living it throughout their journey. In marriage they are seen at their wedding anniversaries when they are old, grey, wrinkled and feeble. Today live a life of unfailing love in all relationships and your declarations will be unnecessary. #BeTheEdge
