Proverbs 24:6 NASB

“Wisdom by itself is not only lonely, it’s a waste.” I sat at lunch the other day with a longtime friend – almost 40 years, to be exact. We talked about a lot of things. One of the topics was our kids. We were there as each of our children were born and grew. They are all grown, married and having our grandchildren. As we talked about the years that led to where they are today, I realized that as close as we were I had missed the opportunity to take advantage of lessons he was learning along the way as we parented kids the same age and facing similar struggles. He had great wisdom to offer on the journey. It caused me to pause and reflect how much wisdom was in my friend group over the years that I had not thought to tap into. You see in all our time together we talked a lot about our careers and ministry. We discussed a lot of sports and even great theological issues. What we missed was the wisdom and council we had to share about the regular, daily responsibilities of life that, in retrospect, have the greatest eternal impact on those we love most. There is truly an eternal battle raging over the souls of everyone and that certainly includes the ones we raise. Today, seek God’s wisdom from those in your circle of influence, or find them, and listen and learn. #BeTheEdge
