This verse begs the question, ‘when should you walk away from an argument?’ When I was younger, I thought my opinion was always necessary, even required. Later, I learned that was not only not true, it was arrogant. So, my internal struggle was between giving up on an argument for godly reasons and continuing a quarrel for the sake of my own need to be heard. Maturity taught me that walking away is not giving up or giving in — it’s about ending an argument on godly terms. And choosing to continue only when absolutely necessary. When you’re disagreeing with someone and you see that you’re in an unwinnable spot, the key is to walk away before you end up in a scenario where it’s nothing but irrational views being reinforced by more irrational arguments. Even if you are sharing rational views that the other person is ignoring, walking away from the disagreement is the better part of valor. It’s called taking the high road. Even Jesus chose to stay quiet when He was aware the other person was not genuinely looking for Truth. If there was ever a time we needed followers of Jesus to avoid foolish arguments, now is that time. Today, hold your tongue and stay on the high road. #BeTheEdge
