Sunday, I chatted and prayed with my mom as she was recovering from a fall. Monday, I was preparing to travel to her place in Florida to handle some of her affairs, since she passed away not long after our chat. We joked on Sunday about her getting better and playing tennis—or maybe looking into jumping hurdles for a track team. At 93, she liked the idea of getting a little NIL money and using her eligibility. We planned on a very slow, gradual improvement. She took some crazy tumbles in her later years. She broke her back once in one such fall. But she always defied what others expected and recovered. Some would say she didn’t this time. I would say she certainly did—beyond all expectations. When we have a relationship with Jesus, we know that our last battle here leads to an unimaginable tomorrow. We don’t boast because that tomorrow is something we came up with. When we boast, as Paul says, we boast only in the Lord. Given what we deserve, the tomorrow we face would be horrific for all of eternity. Given what He freely gives us, it is going to be amazing. Today, my mom is jumping and shouting, playing tennis and jumping hurdles—if they have those things in heaven. But she is definitely hugging my wife, her grandson, her own son and daughter, her parents, and so many others who preceded her because their tomorrow was in the hands of their Creator. Today, don’t boast, be prepared. #BeTheEdge
