Proverbs 4:23 NASB

I listened to some Christian men argue yesterday over whether they should be watching the NBA or not. The argument took on three sides, and as it raged on it got more personal. Here is what the three sides basically boiled down to. First, you should not watch the NBA because of the political opinions being embraced by the league and some of the major players and coaches. Second, yes, it’s okay to watch because of the political opinions being embraced by the league and some of the major players and coaches (see what happened there). And, third, neither side really matters – we should just see the gifts God gave these incredible athletes and appreciate them. I tend to believe God is much more interested in what we value than where we express it. We should recognize that God, as the Creator and sustainer of life, wants us looking beyond personalities and activities and see reflections of Him. He wants who He is, as reflected in all His creation, to supersede any idols, sports, people, politics, etc. Our focus should always be on the Sovereign One and where He is reflected, in all things. We must protect that view and not be dragged down by human pursuits and passions. Today, set God alone as your heart’s desire and we will be set free to enjoy all of His creation in a proper perspective. #BeTheEdge
