Proverbs 4:4 NIV

Another translation puts it this way, “Let your heart retain my words.” David spent a lot of time preparing Solomon’s heart as a young child to receive his words and treasure them in his heart. He tenderized his son’s heart. David didn’t want his words to fall upon deaf ears or a hard heart, so he addressed this first. God does the same thing with us. When we come into a relationship with Him, he immediately sets about softening our hearts. He takes the old hard heart and breathes new life into it. He shows us grace and mercy, and as we experience that, He prepares our hearts to do the same with others. We live in a world that needs to see a reflection of God’s work in our hearts. As we receive instruction from His Spirit and Word, they find a readily receptive soil to be planted and grow. As His truth grows in us His life grows as well. This is a powerful lesson for us as parents in how to love and prepare our children’s hearts for our instruction but even more in preparing them to receive and treasure God’s truth in their souls. Today, receive His truth and ponder it deeply in your soul. #BeTheEdge
