One of the most popular shows streaming these days is called “Lucifer”. I’ve never watched it. I will never watch it. I’m amazed at the people I know who do and rave about it. Let’s take a moment and consider what C.S. Lewis teaches us in this conversation between a demon trainer and his demon student about defeating humans through their belief in Satan, “My dear Wormwood… I wonder you should ask me whether it is essential to keep the patient (human) in ignorance about your own existence. That question, at least for the present phase of the struggle, has been answered for us by the High Command (Satan). Our policy, for the moment, is to conceal ourselves. Of course, this has not always been so. We are really faced with a cruel dilemma. When human beings disbelieve in our existence we lose all the pleasing results of direct terrorism and we make no magicians. On the other hand, when they believe in us we cannot make them materialists and sceptics – at least not yet.” (The Screwtspe Letters) Satan’s initial goal is not to get us to serve him. First he wants us to believe he doesn’t exist. Then he can destroy you. His only desire is to kill and destroy. He hates you. Don’t let fun, playful portrayals suck you into his trap.
