I once drove down a road in Sitka, AK, when I came upon a sign that said, “The road ends here.” And literally, that was where the road stopped. It was an island, so you certainly couldn’t drive any farther. I was somewhat entertained by the fact that someone in government had decided there was a need for a sign and that the expense was justified to notify everyone that the road ended. There is probably a practical reason for that sign, though it escapes me what it would be. In this passage, Solomon tells us in the next few verses that his commands are all meant to keep us away from sin. In this chapter, the example is a prostitute. But throughout Scripture, we are given warnings and cautions—not only about the evils and consequences of sin, but often what it looks like and where it is. Solomon tells us that as we let God’s Word deeply into our heart, soul, and mind, it will notify us when sin is present. It alerts us when we’ve come to the place where we need to turn around and flee. Unlike the mostly needless sign at the edge of the road in Sitka, God’s cautions and warnings are vital to our existence as His children. Today, get into His Word and read the signs. #BeTheEdge
