Proverbs 10:1 NIV

“The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.”

As a teenager, my brother and I took our parents through both extremes of this verse. As the parent of two boys, I certainly experienced both with my own teens. Thankfully, we also had an angelic daughter. Sort of. This is not unique to my family; otherwise, it wouldn’t have been important enough to include in the book of Proverbs. If you have or had teens, I’m almost certain you know the reality of this verse. Foolishness indicates a lack of wisdom. What teen isn’t on the path to wisdom after making a few foolish, impulsive (read: immature and hormone-driven) decisions? The key is to gain maturity and wisdom as we align our journey with God’s truth. What a tremendous waste it is to go through early experiences only to miss the life lessons and fail to grow in wisdom. In Proverbs, a wise son always refers to a godly one. No one is or becomes truly godly apart from the indwelling Holy Spirit. As we grow and walk with Jesus, we bring joy not only to our earthly father but to our Heavenly Father as well. Anything else will result in sorrow—not only for a mother but for everyone involved in our story. Today, live wisely. #BeTheEdge

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬
