“For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.”
40 years ago I moved from a ministry with 25 staff who all shared a space with no walls and back to back desks. I loved it. When I arrived in Auburn it was just me and the office was my car. I mmediately became involved with a great church and even though I had nothing to do with staff responsibilities the pastor and I developed a friendship. Knowing I had recently left a large staff to start the ministry here on my own he invited me to join them for staff meetings. It was a great gift and over time I was invited to share what I was working on and get input. Shortly after this my best friend from high school moved to town to do ministry as well. I began to spend so much time with him that people thought we worked together and my ministry was a part of his. Both of those situations helped me be more effective and impact more people for the gospel. As a king, Solomon was very aware of the dynamics in this verse. He saw paranoid kings kill all their advisors, even family, only to eventually be destroyed along with their kingdoms. He also witnessed and experienced the power of great counsel. We have all heard that two heads are better than one. I’ll say that 6 heads are often better than two. Want success? Get godly counselors and allow them to speak directly into your life. Today build your team wisely but definitely build it. #BeTheEdge
