Proverbs 11:2 NIV

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” ‬‬

I just read an article that quoted a WNBA basketball player who is under a lot of pressure from the media and some parts of the public. She said, “If you’re going to live by the praise, you’re going to die by the hate.” We live in a world of superstars. Rock stars, country music stars, actors and actresses, athletes, tech stars, and streaming stars all build well-known followings who continually lavish amazing praise on them. Then, with one small twitch, their followers turn on them. It’s a phenomenon such as we may have never seen in the past. Sure, when someone living in the public eye did something really foolish or stupid, maybe even criminal, the public would definitely shake their heads and withdraw their support. But now, it’s a phenomenon that is almost beyond understanding—and keeping up with. With that level of praise comes a pride that almost seems fake, but over time, it has proved to be real, almost supernaturally real. It changes that person to the point that they are no longer who they were. They become the myth. God was aware of those people back in the day, and He is also aware of them now. This verse has been quoted many, many times. The idea of pride coming before a fall is not new. The fact that so many people believe it won’t happen to them is what’s amazing. Living a humble life brings the wisdom that keeps us humble because we recognize that all our wisdom comes from our Creator. The only thing we have to be proud of is that He allows us to be His children. Even that is not a sense of pride, but of joy and gratitude. Today, walk humbly as a child of the King. #BeTheEdge
