“In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.”
Now that’s good news. Life and immortality both seem like pretty good things to pursue. Here, Solomon tells us how it’s done: through the way of righteousness. In this verse, immortality is not part of a superhero movie or a science fiction story; it is the reality for all of us. Every human who has ever lived or will live is an eternal being. Our soul will live forever. Those who enter a relationship with God through His free gift of eternal life will spend eternity—immortality—in heaven with Him. Those who do not accept the free gift of life from His Son will spend eternity separated from Him in hell. We will all live forever. Solomon’s reference to immortality is the one we desire. As we live in His righteousness, we walk in eternal life. That life begins here on earth the moment we receive His salvation through Jesus, and the Holy Spirit enters our soul. From that moment on, we are living immortal lives with God that will never end. One day, our body—our “earth suit”—will cease to function and die, but our spirit will live and move into the eternity prepared for us with God.
