“No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.”
Those in the world of theology who keep up with such things would tell us that this represents one of the 8,800 promises God makes to us in Scripture. The righteous cannot be uprooted. That’s the promise. It should give great comfort and encouragement to those of us who are covered in the righteousness of Jesus. You see, it’s not our righteousness that protects us—it’s His. We are not, and cannot be, righteous in and of ourselves. There are an awful lot of people in the world who believe they can be more righteous than unrighteous and that this somehow earns them a place with God in His kingdom. It doesn’t. We talked not long ago about the fact that our best—our very best—is still but a filthy rag to God. It’s not that God has disdain for or looks down on our efforts. It’s simply that He is so incredibly pure and holy, with not even the slightest shade of sin in Him, that even our best efforts are still tainted by selfishness or self-interest. Thankfully, we don’t earn His righteousness. It is a free gift—an amazing free gift—received through faith in Jesus Christ. Today, walk in His righteousness. #BeTheEdge
“and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.” Philippians 3:9 NIV
