“An unplowed field produces food for the poor, but injustice sweeps it away.”
I consult a number of commentaries each morning as I prepare these brief thoughts about the days verse. Certain verses have very little from the theologians. If the importance of a particular verse is to be judged by the amount written about them then this is one of the more import verses in the book of Proverbs. I believe that is true. Distilling the information to its core is the message that those with modest gifts, means and ability share and impact the kingdom in ways that are often more important than those with great and, at times flashy and applauded gifts. In Solomon’s day the majority of the kingdom, as is much of the world today, was made up of average people who took their half acre of land and worked it diligently to feed themselves, their family and contribute to the needs of the community at large. These are the hard working employees and laborers who keep the wheels of industry and the economy moving today. Often unnoticed it is an imperative that these average workers work hard and produce results for all of us to not only function but to actually survive. The unplowed field is speaking of one that has never been unused before or was fallow. The small farmer tills the field and produces vital crops that, combined with the others small farmers takes care of all of us. The rich person in this verse makes arrogant or selfish decisions that cause their collapse and affects all of us negatively. Today appreciate the regular hard worker, let them know and be one as well. #BeTheEdge
