Proverbs 13:9 NIV

“The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.”

I have read this verse every month for years. There is a simple yet powerful distinction I have missed all those years. Solomon talks about the light of the righteous verses the lamp of the wicked. The light is God’s light shining forth from the righteous. It is the light Jesus refers to when He declares Himself to be The Light of the world. It is the light we see referring to God throughout the New Testament. It is a strong, powerful, ever present, life giving light. The lamp of the wicked is the feeble light of their own devices. It must be fueled, kindled and kept going. It is not the overwhelming type of light and it will eventually go out leaving the wicked in darkness. Granted there are times when the lamp of the wicked may appear to be giving off life giving light. Scripture tells us that Satan masquerades as an angel of light to deceive the lost world. It takes the discernment and light of God’s spirit in the righteous to always know the difference. Satan knew the scriptures better than any of us and didn’t hesitate to try and make it say what it didn’t. Even when tempting Jesus in the wilderness. Our challenge is to walk in the light of God knowing it will overwhelm the lamp of the wicked. Today determine to live in the Light of God and allow Him to shine on His path for your journey. #BeTheEdge

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭NIV‬
