“A king delights in a wise servant, but a shameful servant arouses his fury.”
We have all grown up with stories of kings. Biblical, fantasy, even some historical figures such as the king of England captured our imagination. What very few of us have ever experienced is living as the subject of a king. We are use to political leaders coming and going. If we don’t care for a leader we know they will eventually be run out of office or, as in the case of our president, term limited. When Solomon speaks of the king he is referring to his grandfather, dad and himself. When he shares how a wise or shameful servant impacts the emotions of the king there is a deep understanding of what he’s referring to. In our experience we do live under a king, as a matter of fact we live under the watchful eye and sovereign presence of the King of the universe. He too feels deeply as He watches His servants. If you want a great illustration of how God rewards His wise servant, both Joseph and Daniel are great examples. There is a very long list of those who displeased their kings in the Old Testament as well. Living with the awareness that we serve not only a real eternal king but that He is sovereign over all creation should encourage us to be wise servants. Today consider th heart of your King. #BeTheEdge
