Proverbs 1:5 NIV

“let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—”

When I ran a national ministry training school I remember Bill always sitting on the front row. This was before the time of cell phones and iPads so he came with notebook and pen poised to take copious notes. He asked great questions and made very astute observations. This school was the kind you took at the start or within a year or two of the start of coming on staff with our ministry. Bill was there, listening, taking notes, learning, almost every year I was there leading or teaching, close to 20 years. I admired his desire to always learn. I had always admired the learner Bill Eakin. You see Bill was one of the forefathers of our ministry. He was actually there way back near the beginning. He was not only there as a learner, he also taught at the school every year. Bill was a teacher in 1979 when I went to the national training as a brand new staff and student. Bill died a while ago. I still miss him. In this verse Solomon is talking about Bill. More importantly I want him to be talking about me. Always listening and learning shows we know we don’t know it all, it shows wisdom. The truly wise remain learners and continue to grow and learn. Today I will sit down front, take notes and learn what my creator wants to teach me. #BeTheEdge
